Academy of Fine Arts and Literature, founded in 1975 by eminent writer Ajeet Cour and her painter daughter Arpana Caur, is a non-profit organisation. This is a principal centre of literary, art and cultural activities in Delhi. Besides holding a weekly talk on the philosophy of Gandhi for years now and series of lectures addressing other intellectual and academic interests, it organises monthly meets of poets of all languages since 1976, Conference of SAARC Writers since 1987, and free vocational training programs for girls of low income groups. It has a free library and reading hall with more than 10000 books, an exhibition gallery and 6 free Museums : two Ancient Miniature Paintings (approx 250) Museum, Museum of Tribal & Folk Art (approx 1000), Ajeet Cour Museum, Arpana Caur’s paintings of different period and a museum of Arpana Caur’s paper works all with free entry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Arpana Fine Arts Gallery which has been in existence since 1997 is primarily for the young, disabled and unknown artists.
